DVD Review: ONSLAUGHT LIVE POLISH ASSAULT 2007 DVD - The Slaught is On!

OnslaughtThe bell tolls and the pentagram burns in the “Stodola” Club, in Warsaw, Poland on February 12th 2007, two days before Valentine’s Day in a work of love presented by Metal Mind Productions. I knew this was going to be a great year, and this video lends credo to that.

It opens with the Polish crowd shifting feet in anticipation, wails of the air siren, and the Poles decked in black begin to chant, “Onslaught! Onslaught!” They are welcomed by Onlaught’s crushing guitars with Slayer’s in air.

“Let there be Death!” reminiscent of Metallica’s ‘Four Horsemen,’ thunders with double bass excellently produced in this Live effort by a band of metal war veterans, and we’re just getting started. The thumping bass bridge from Angels of Death is not to be missed, and the camera and lighting throughout pulls you straight into “Stodola”, just in time for what must be the longest title in Onslaught’s deep repertoire, ‘Thermonuclear Devastation of the Planet Earth’. Feel that Bass!

Thrashmatic in sickly green, ‘Killing Peace’ the title track of their new album crushes. Nige Rockett riffs the rhythm massacres one handed. Alan Jordan using two hands, tears into blazing solos, just long enough to taste the fury, while Jeff Williams lays down tight bass lines in accordance with Steve Grice’s percussion nightmares (The types that wake you panting). Throw in Sy Keeler’s over the top vocals, and you have an Onslaught of metal power.

The production value rocks in “Stodola”. A perfect-size club, you feel in close & personal, and tight, this Band is Tight. There were moments I never wanted it to end, and luckily with this wonderful recording, it never has to, all day, every day, Oh Yeah! It is an incredible party, you can feel from Sy Keeler’s smile, these guys love what they do, and it is an honor to have them share that love with their grateful fans. If you like Death, Slayer, Maiden, or Old Metallica (You know before ‘Enter Sandman’, when they all fell asleep), you’ll dig this DVD.

After ‘Fight the Beast’ and ‘Metal Forces’, we have the ballad ‘Twisted Jesus’, a slow grind at 250 Beats Per Minutes. Yeah, it Rules! The technical quality far surpasses any other recording of a live show, I have seen. The Maiden-like strings bend wicked calls to the dark-side, and you’ll swear they are about to snap off the neck of A. J.’s guitar.

When you get this DVD, you better have great speakers on your telly, cause if not they’re going to blow! It’s a wicked guilty indulgence feeling the wind coming off the woofer from across the room, as these guys blow the roof off of Poland. I was giggling to the zenith, ‘SHELLSHOCK’, a total classic. Sy mugging the members of the band while they play is endless fun, and the Polish Hotties know what’s going down, these guys FING Rule!

It just gets better and better, feeling that bass thump your chest, driving your heart, and knowing these guys care. Thrash from your Heart & Soul never gets old, and neither do these wicked riffs. 4 Horns & a Double Slayer (That’s 8 out of 10 for you counting at home); I am going to sleep tonight feeling like I was at One Great Show.

Don’t forget to check out the extra videos from Japan, and the other extras in this excellent DVD.
