Available On DVD September 2 From MGM Home Entertainment
LOS ANGELES, CA – It’s six A.M. Do you know where you are? MGM Home Entertainment presents a surreal look at the hip and glossy underworld of New York City’s drug culture in the late 1980s and one disillusioned young man’s attempt to escape it when Bright Lights, Big City: 20th Anniversary Edition arrives on DVD September 2. Starring Michael J. Fox (Back to the Future, “Spin City”) in a hardened performance, Bright Lights, Big City follows aspiring writer Jamie Conway (Fox), a man whose life has essentially fallen apart due to the recent death of his mother and his now estranged wife. Seeking solace in cocaine, alcohol and the New York City club scene Jamie slowly becomes immersed in the decadent Manhattan life-style. Accompanied by his best friend Tad (Kiefer Sutherland; “24,” The Sentinel), Jamie becomes even more consumed with his nightly routine and severe depression, forcing him to confront his demons, face the facts and turn his life around.
Featuring outstanding supporting performances from Phoebe Cates (Gremlins, Fast Times at Ridgemont High), Dianne Wiest (“In Treatment,” Dan in Real Life), Jason Robards (Magnolia, Philadelphia) and John Houseman (The Paper Chase, The Fog) as well as a soundtrack full of 80s hits by the likes of Depeche Mode, Prince and New Order, the Bright Lights, Big City: 20th Anniversary Edition DVD features commentaries by author/screenwriter Jay McInerney and cinematographer Gordon Willis, two all-new behind-the-scenes featurettes, a photo gallery and more. Available for a suggested retail price of $14.98 U.S. / $15.98 Canada, prebook is August 6.
Bright Lights, Big City Synopsis
Michael J. Fox “couldn’t be better” (Los Angeles Times) as Jamie Conway, an aspiring writer who abandons the wheat fields of Kansas for the skyline of Manhattan – and the city’s seductive party subculture. Hitting the clubs night after night, Jamie soon spins out of control, and he risks losing everything – and everyone — he loves. Co-starrring Kiefer Sutherland, Dianne Wiest, Phoebe Cates and Swoosie Kurtz, and with its pulsating soundtrack from New Order, Depeche Mode and Prince, this “chronicle of wasted days and misplaced nights” (Roger Ebert) is a must-own!
